Queen’s Award Celebration

On Thursday 23rd February, we celebrated Octopus’ receipt of the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service with an event at St Luke’s Community Centre. It was amazing evening with volunteers from across the Network getting together to celebrate the award, and recognise their invaluable contribution to communities across Islington.

We were delighted to be joined by Paul Herbage MBE KStJ DL, Representative Deputy Lieutenant for the London Borough of Islington, who made a local presentation of the Award to our Chair, Colin Adams, and Her Worship the Mayor of Islington, Councillor Marian Spall who presented Queen’s Award badges to volunteers from Community Centres across the Octopus Network.

We heard inspiring speeches about the importance of volunteering and the voluntary sector from Councillor Kaya Comer-Schwartz, Councillor Una O’Halloran, and Jeremy Corbyn MP.

A huge thank you to all those who joined us at the event, to St Luke’s for hosting, and in particular to volunteers who make incredible contributions to Islington, and without whom none of the Community Centres could do what they do.

Thank you.
